Newry is situated in the south-east of Ulster, in a valley between the Mourne Mountains and the Ring of Gullion. The western half of the city is in County Armagh and the eastern half is in County Down. The Clanrye River runs through the city, parallel to the Newry Canal and therefore forms the historic border between County Armagh and County Down. Notable buildings in Newry include Saint Patrick’s Church and the Cathedral of Saints Patrick and Colman. Daisy Hill Hospital is part of the Southern Health and Social Care Trust with an A&E department, out-patients department and surgery suite.
City of Merchants Festival 2018
In 2018, we look forward to the second year of the City of Merchants Festival in Newry. This year the festival is due to take place from Friday 2nd November through to Sunday 4th November. The festival commemorates the history of Newry as a busy port city and important epicenter of trade between Britain and Ireland. Expect many fun and interesting events, tours and activities in celebration of Newry’s strong trading heritage and rich maritime history.
