Warrenpoint News
On 16th February 2022, a £2.6m regeneration of Warrenpoint Promenade was announced. This work will consist of various upgrades and repairs such as replacement of footpaths, sea wall repairs and replacement street seating. Funding has been committed from the Department for Communities and Newry, Mourne and Down District Council.
Warrenpoint can look forward to other projects in the coming years. Future works such as Breakwater and car parking have also been citied.

About Warrenpoint
Warrenpoint is referred to locally as “The Point”. It is a small town in County Down and is well known for its scenic location. The town itself is situated in Northern Ireland, therefore in the north part of Carlingford Lough. Consequently, a narrow channel of water from the Newry River runs into Carlingford Lough and therefore separates Warrenpoint from County Louth in the Republic of Ireland. Warrenpoint grew up within the townland of Ringmackilroy. Places of interest include the Narrow Water Castle which originates from the 1660s.
Popular events include the Warrenpoint International “Maiden of the Mourne” Festival. This 2-week festival is a similar theme to the famous “Rose of Tralee Festival” in County Kerry and happens somewhere between mid-July and mid-August. The Blues on the Bay music festival takes place in Warrenpoint every May. This music festival is now running into its 23rd year and attracts quality Blues & Jazz performances.
Other Warrenpoint Events
In August 2019 we saw the return of The Wake the Giant Festival #WakeTheGiant in Warrenpoint. The festival is based around the folklore giant character Finn. During his travels around the area, local people and visitors compete to find the most creative ways to wake Finn, the sleeping giant.
Warrenpoint Harbour / Port
Warrenpoint Port was recently in the news following the announcement that there will be checks on goods crossing the Irish sea after Brexit. This is in contrast to earlier commitments from the UK government that no such checks would take. The UK government has now conceded there will be post-Brexit checks on goods crossing the Irish Sea and border control posts will be situated at the ports of Belfast, Warrenpoint, and Larne.
