Information about Newry

Newry railway station originally opened in 1855 as the “Newry Main Line” undertook several names in its lifetime before it was closed again in 1942. 1984 saw the station reopened with the addition of some basic facilities. For a further 20 years, it remained. In 2009, a modern train station was built to replace it. The Enterprise express service, connecting Belfast and Dublin goes via Newry Railway Station.
What county is Newry in? The answer to this frequently asked question is that Newry is in both County Armagh and County Down. The Clanrye River runs through the middle and dissects the city into the east side (County Down) and the west side (County Armagh), therefore forming the border between the two counties.
Newry and Mourne Museum previously hosted a “Rails around Newry” lecture. The talk, delivered by railway historian Charles Friel, was a
recreation of the train journey from Poyntzpass, through Goraghwood, Markethill, Armagh, Newry, and Warrenpoint. Following the talk, a temporary exhibition, ‘An Excursion into the History of the Newry and Warrenpoint Railway’ documented the history of the railway line. A range of objects, documents, and photographs were donated to the Museum in 2018. You can read more about this here: https://www.visitmournemountains.co.uk/museums/newry-and-mourne-museum/collections/railway-collection
Southern Regional College Newry, also known as SRC, is a further and higher education college. The towns of Armagh, Banbridge, Kilkell, Lurgan, Newry and Portadown, all host the main campus locations. This college is the largest of the same type of college outside of Belfast. The college, established in 2007, currently hosts up to 32,000 students and 900 academic staff.

Beijing International Horticultural Exhibition

On 29th April 2019, China hosted the world’s largest-ever gardening show. A huge exhibition of flowers, plants, and pavilions that formed part of the 70th birthday celebrations for the People’s Republic of China.
It was located in the Beijing suburb of Yanqing. This horticultural exhibition occupies an area said to be the size of 500 football pitches. In comparison to the Chelsea flower show, the Beijing international horticultural exhibition dwarfs it in size.
More than 1,000 varieties of Chinese flowers, 100 indoor and outdoor gardens were on display. In addition, Pavilions hosted by more than 80 countries. 16 million visitors were expected to visit the show. Therefore, it is expected to be the largest international event in China since the Olympics in 2008.
As a result, some of the spectacular buildings constructed for the expo include:
  • The China pavilion is a large semi-circular dome in the shape of a traditional Chinese ornament
  • A large greenhouse with 1,000 plant species
  • A performance hall designed and built in the shape of a giant butterfly

Flower bouquets

When we gather a variety of flowers, or perhaps multiple flowers of the same type, and we then arrange them in accordance with our creative flair.

This is known as a flower bouquet. It can be used as a means of decorating your home or public space.

Mostly though, a flower bouquet is a good old-fashioned gift, presented to a friend, loved one, or family member to mark an occasion and show a gesture of goodwill, love, and compassion. Or all of the above.
