What county is Newry in? The answer to this frequently asked question is that Newry is in both County Armagh and County Down. The Clanrye River runs through the middle and dissects the city into the east side (County Down) and the west side (County Armagh), therefore forming the border between the two counties.

Newry railway station originally opened in 1855 as the “Newry Main Line” undertook several names in its lifetime before it was closed again in 1942. In 1984 the station was re-opened with some basic facilities. It then remained in this state for a further 20 years until 2009 when a new modern train station was opened to replace it.
